Why Your Washing Machine Won't Turn On: 4 Troubleshooting Tips

Blog

Your washing machine is one of those appliances you could live without, but why would you want to? When this appliance breaks down, you have to lug your clothing to the nearest laundromat, which can be a chore in itself - where did all of those dirty clothes come from? When your washing machine breaks down it can be a catastrophe for you and your family. One of the issues you may encounter is your machine not even turning on. Read on for a few troubleshooting tips to repair this issue yourself.

Check The Breaker

If you aren't getting any power to the appliance at all, it could be that you tripped the breaker somehow. If you have a lot plugged into one breaker, it may be overloading the circuit and causing it to trip. Check your breaker box for any tripped breakers. Press the breaker back into place if this was the case. If it continues to trip the breaker, you may need to have your circuit reconfigured and have more breakers added to stop this from happening in the future.

Check The Outlet

Check the outlet with a multimeter to see if you have any continuity. Check all outlets, as one may be on a switch. If you've just moved into the home, check a switch nearby to see if this helps turn on the outlet. If you aren't getting continuity at all from the outlet, you are going to have to inspect further. Hire a professional electrician for help replacing the outlet, or if you're handy with electrical you can replace the outlet yourself.

Check The Plug

If the outlet and breaker weren't the issue, it may be the plug on your machine. Check the plug and the cord attached to your machine. If it is in bad shape, or the wiring is frayed for some reason, the entire cord will need to be replaced. Call a washer repair technician for help making this repair.

Call A Professional

If none of these thing were the problem, your machine may have an issue with the electronic board inside the machine. Something inside may have broken or a fuse within the machine may be blown. Utilize professional washer repair services to help with this issue. Don't attempt to take apart your machine yourself if you aren't familiar with washer repair.

If you are having issues with your washing machine, hire a professional repairman to ensure the job gets done right the first time so you can get back to your own daily routine - without extra trips to the laundromat
